Information for Maintaining a Healthy Colon

Colon Hydrotherapist

A colon hydrotherapist is the individual who actually performs the colon hydrotherapy. These individuals should be trained and have plenty of experience before going into business by themselves.

Training

The colon hydrotherapist must undergo serious training before he or she can perform colon hydrotherapy. To begin with, the hydrotherapist must have graduated from high school or have a GED equivalency. The future hydrotherapist must first apply to an I-ACT school to be properly trained. I-ACT is the International Association for Colon Hydrotherapy. I-ACT determines what education must be completed to be certified as a hydrotherapist.

The standard training requirements are as follows:

• 5 hours of training in Business Ethics and Office Procedures.
• 5 hours of training in Health and Sanitation.
• 15 hours of training in the Anatomy and Physiology of the Gastrointestinal Tract.
• 5 hours studying the theory of Colon Hydrotherapy as well as its history.
• 20 hours learning about the care of the colon including nutrition, herbs, colon cleansing, and exercise.
• 50 hours of working with an experienced hydrotherapist in an internship and performing a minimum of 40 colon hydrotherapy sessions.

Once the new hydrotherapist has completed training he or she is required to undergo testing through I-ACT to be certified. I-ACT also certifies hydrotherapists in different levels depending on experience. Each level from Foundation to Intermediate, followed by Advanced and then Instructor requires thorough testing by I-ACT.

What You Can Expect from a Colon Hydrotherapy Session?

When you undergo colon hydrotherapy you will be led to a private treatment room and asked to lie on a comfortable table. The colon hydrotherapist will insert a speculum into your rectum. These speculums are usually plastic and disposable. However some hydrotherapists prefer to use stainless steel speculums. In this case they need to be sterilized after each use in an autoclave to comply with safety and sanitary standards. Using a colon hydrotherapy machine, warm water is infused into the rectum. The water loosens any fecal material that is caught up in the folds and bends of the colon. The waste is then disposed through a drain line. The process is repeated a few times. Each session lasts up to 45 minutes.

The Function of the Colon Hydrotherapist

The colon hydrotherapist runs the colon hydrotherapy session. The hydrotherapist will massage your abdominal area if you approve to help loosen the fecal material. He or she will also keep a close eye on the temperature of the water so it does not get too hot or too cold for you. The water pressure is also monitored and will be increased and decreased to stimulate the natural muscular contractions of the colon. Expect your hydrotherapist to schedule a minimum of three sessions to be sure the colon is completely cleaned. After that, one session every three to six months will be sufficient to maintain a healthy colon.

Advantages of Colon Hydrotherapy

The initial colon hydrotherapy session that you experience is the same as having approximately 25 bowel movements. Much of the old built up fecal material is eliminated. Of course, it may take a few sessions to rid your body of all the impacted waste. It is a good idea to use a colon cleansing product between treatments to help maintain a healthy colon. Regardless, you will probably feel energized and find your bowel movements are easier. In addition, you might find your health improving.
