Cascara Sagrada should never be taken by anyone having been diagnosed with gastrointestinal or colorectal diseases since it promotes contractions in the muscles along the intestines which could create problems in those individuals, including severe abdominal cramping. This herb should also not be used by pregnant women because it is known to promote premature labor.

Customer feedback, for the most part, has been on the positive side. However, one customer reported that if Ultimate Cleanse was discontinued, bowel movements immediately slacked off again.
