What is the Colon?
The body in its natural form has body parts that have various functions to keep the system clean and healthy. In this regard, the intestines, both large and small, together with the enzymes from the pancreas and the liver have the function to change the food that we eat to a form that is used as energy by the body. The colon, which is the end of the digestive tract, handles most of the food eaten. The glands and sensitive nerves of the colon aid in the assimilation of food. In its healthy stages, the peristaltic motion of the colon moves the food and the unassimilated substances are eliminated from the body.
What is a Toxic Colon?
Toxicity of the colon sets in when the ability of the colon to eliminate waste elements from the body decreases. Due to unhealthy eating habits, improper lifestyle, lack of exercise, stress and the intake of certain drugs, the colon becomes less active and takes more time to eliminate waste from the body. Slowly, the fecal matter that must be eliminated starts being deposited in the walls of the colon itself, which may remain lodged there for months or even years. Since the assimilation of food is not carried on the proper way, the toxic waste enters the bowel wall and moves in to the bloodstream. The toxins are then transferred to all body parts through the blood.
Effects of a Toxic Colon
The assimilation of food and waste elimination process by the colon takes place nearly after 16-24 hours of consuming food. However, if the colon becomes toxic, the procedure might take up to 70 hours. This is a serious problem as the waste substance that should have been eliminated is still lodged in the body, releasing toxic material into the blood stream. An unhealthy or toxic colon can indirectly lead to several health problems. These problems could be any of the following; headaches, arthritis, constipation, diarrhea, food cravings, foul body odor, skin problems, hemorrhoids, asthma, depression, prostrate trouble, distended abdomen, bad breath, irritability, chronic fatigue, menstrual problems besides a host of other ailments.
The problem with having a toxic colon is that a person is not aware of the problem and never associates the onset of any of the above-mentioned problems to an unhealthy or toxic colon. Over the time, the constant pressure and the increasing toxicity of the colon lead to a stage where removal of the diseased or the entire colon is the only resort. As per a survey, nearly 80% of all the diseases around are in some way related to an unhealthy or toxic colon. Each year nearly 100,000 colostomy surgeries are performed in the USA with nearly 2.5 million people visiting doctors annually with the complaint of constipation.
Treatment of the Toxic Colon
Detoxification is the process by which the unhealthy colon can be treated. Under this process, the colon is introduced to several hydrotherapy sessions that aid in the elimination of the deposited fecal matter providing relief to the patient and bringing back the colon to its natural and healthy state.
